The Revolutionary War

Recently, the 7th and 8th grade students have been studying about the Revolutionary War. Not only have they been studying the war itself but also about the culture and lifestyle customary to the time period. One big project assigned was the tavern project. The class was seperated into four groups which each had to make their own tavern( used as restaurants, hotels, bars, and public speaking houses). From there, the group had to create a tavern name, a tavern sign, and a certain item that distinguished which person belonged to which tavern. Some examples included the Shipwreck Tavern and the Hornet's Nest.

Once the taverns were assembled, they were placed against each other in a variety of challenges including creating a war strategy at Bunker Hill and reciting Patrick Henry's infamous speech. Challenge winners were awarded continental dollars or points which were tallied up at the end of the project to find the winning and most successful tavern. The students had fun competing against each other while still learning about the historical significance of the time.
