IOWA BASIC TEST RESULTS - 2005-2006

The results from the Iowa Basics have arrived. We are excited about how well our Summit Academy students scored - although we keep reminding ourselves (and you) that this is a very small portion of the total assessment process for achievement and progress. The standardized test scores are only one predictor of school success, and can vary from year to year.

I will give a summary of class scores, using total and composite scores. Many of the test areas have multiple sub-tests. The numbers are percentiles comparing scores to children in the same grades throughout the nation. For example, a score of 75% would mean that our class scored better than 75% of the other classes which took the test.

Also, it is important to realize that, in a class average, the smaller the class, the more likely that one low score can effect the total average. Any one child can have a bad day or not be a test taker. However, all scores are averaged in for the class total.

The most positive thing we can take away from analysis of standardized testing is to notice areas of weakness in our program. Then it is our challenge and goal to improve in those areas for future years. In this way, the test results can be very beneficial as we assess ourselves and make improvement.
