WHAT A GREAT GOLF OUTING!! Thank you to our golf committee headed by Karen Masukawa, Lisa Morrice, Joanne Muehlschlegel, Margot Swienton, Cheryl Cerkleski, Margaret Londo, Julie Runzel, Traci Matysek and Beth Guske for the fantastic day and evening at Boulder Ridge! The weather was absolutely perfect, the golf course was in great shape, the food was wonderful, and the evening of video memories and lively auctions was outstanding! I think we even made some money for the school!! Final figures are not yet in, but we will report on that later. Thanks for the great effort and enormous amount of time by our golf committee!

Three Days of Trips: The 2nd through 8th grade classes went on overnight field trips last week from Wednesday through Friday. By all reports, the three trips were educational, fun and well worth it. The 2nd and 3rd graders went to Camp Timber Lee in Wisconsin; the 4th and 5th graders went to Center for American Archeology in Kampsville, IL; and the 6th-8th graders went to Springfield, IL and Hannibal, MO. It was exciting to hear all the stories that came back - well most of them, anyway! I think a few campers learned to identify and pull off ticks.

Foreign Language Program: The 4th-8th grade French and Spanish classes gave outstanding performances yesterday as they performed skits, songs, dances, news broadcasts and commercials in the foreign language that the students are studying. As you may, or may not know, at 4th grade our students choose one language to study five days a week. The program presented at the end of the year is written by the students and then performed by them. Thank goodness they find ways to also present the translation for those of us in the audience who do not know the language. Great job by Senora Schnecke, Madame Silkaitis and their students!

Good Luck! We have been informed that Ms. Mindy Hardy, Kindergarten teacher, will not be returning next year as she will be pursuing her masters in education degree. Also, Ms. Renee Steele, kindergarten assistant, will be retiring with her husband to Kentucky. We thank both these wonderful ladies for their years of service at Summit and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

All other staff have been offered contracts to return next year and we are awaiting for them to return their signed contracts. We are excited to have them all back and look forward to a challenging year next year as we work together with Elgin Academy staff to align our curricula. We know we have a daunting task in front of us, but we are positive we can meet the challenge and also the vote of confidence you, our families, have given us by returning with us for the 2006-2007 school year. THANK YOU!
