The commitment of the F.I.R.S.T. (Families and Infants: Resource,
Support, and Training) Program is to educate the earliest learners
and their parents. F.I.R.S.T. brings parents and their children
from birth through two years of age together in a learning environment
for two hours a week. During this time, babies interact with
their parents and other children in an enriched and stimulating
environment. Parents learn techniques to enhance their child's
acquisition of new skills, ways to stimulate the child's developing
brain, and behaviors to facilitate the formation of a secure
attachment bond.
Parents and their
infant or toddler are grouped with a maximum of eight other parents
and children who meet one morning each week for two hours. Classes
are grouped according to the child's developmental age: Precrawlers,
Crawlers, Walkers, and Sturdy Walkers. Parents also come once
a month without their child for an evening parent education class
focused of fine-tuning their parenting skills.
Summit's F.I.R.S.T.
Program trains parents to be their child's teacher for the first
two years of their life. Parents are given the resources, training,
and support that have historically been reserved for professional
educators. We hope that you will join us in developing the
best instructor possible for your baby---YOU!
