Our son was a struggling high school Freshman when we found Summit School. Recently diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and mixed expressive/receptive language disorder, he attended a mix of Regular Education and Special Education classes in our local public schools. While we were thankful for what the schools provided, it either was not enough support or was not in an environment appropriate for his needs.
My wife and I visited Summit and saw that the classes offered were challenging and dynamic. The staff was experienced, professional, and communicative. We soon found that Summit was small enough that each teacher knew every student's name. We were filled with hope that this would be a good fit.
After initial, and expected, resistance, our son fit right in. Soon, he was no longer determined to drop out of school. After a month, he was not only doing his homework . . . he was talking about it with his mother and me. He developed an interest in history, in ecology, even math. He missed fewer days at school and received focused attention from all his teachers. By the time he graduated, our son had raised his GPA, made friends, and gained an increased self-confidence.
As parents of a bi-polar child, my wife and I had exhausted our search for a quality academic environment which also addressed his special needs. Summit School was an essential, positive step in his life. The entire staff at Summit is committed to and engaged with every student. We could not be happier or more appreciative.
