TRANSITION PROGRAM

Summit School's transition team helps students and families establish a vision for the future.

PROGRAM FOCUS

We focus on these key areas to help students prepare for life after high school.

  • Future education & training
  • Future careers & employment
  • Community involvement
  • Connections with agencies & services

TRANSITION PLANNING

Moving successfully to life after high school means facing decisions about where to live and work and how to participate in the community.

Summit is here to bring students, families, schools, agencies and community partners together to explore answers, understand options and create opportunities that lead to meaningful plans rooted in experience.

THE STEP PROGRAM

The Secondary Transitional Experience Program (STEP) is a DHS program designed to help students as young as 14 begin to develop the skills and work habits needed to become productive adults.

TACTICS FOR LIFE

High School juniors and seniors participating in the Transition Advocacy Communication Techniques in Community Settings (TACTICS) program build their social and communication skills both in and out of the academic environment. As a group, students visit new places each week, introducing them to a broad range of work possibilities. Summit teams students with counselors, speech pathologists, and teachers to address and overcome individual challenges.

WORKPLACE INTERNSHIPS

These opportunities in the business community provide Summit students with hands-on activities that integrate previous learning with enriching experiences. As interns, Summit students build meaningful work skills and grow to understand the expectations and nuances of employee/employer relationships.

PREPARING FOR LIFE BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Moving successfully to life after high school means facing decisions about where to live and work and how to participate in the community. Summit is here to bring students, families, schools, agencies and community partners together to explore answers, understand options and create opportunities that lead to meaningful plans

rooted in experience.

Our community partners play a vital role in our students' understanding of life beyond the classroom. Workplace internships and other onsite, interactive opportunities open a new world to students and help them build the confidence to take their skills and abilities to new heights after graduation.
